Gylfi Sigurdsson signs for Everton in club-record £45million transfer from Swansea
Toffees finally land their man at third time of asking as Iceland playmaker becomes their most expensive ever player
GYLFI SIGURDSSON has completed his £45million Everton move from Swansea.
The Iceland playmaker, 27, passed his medical with the Toffees today.
Ronald Koeman had previously seen two bids rejected for the former Tottenham midfielder but he has now got his man on a five-year deal.
Sigurdsson said: "Hopefully I will continue to create goals and score goals for the team and contribute to the kind of success we're seeking at the club.
"This is an ambitious club and it is clear we are moving in a really good direction. The most important thing is that this team keeps winning games and climbing the table - and does that throughout the season."
Sigurdsson scored nine goals and contributed 13 assists last season to help Swansea avoid relegation from the Premier League.
His transfer will be a record signing for the Merseyside club, who bought Romelu Lukaku for £31.8m from Chelsea in 2014.
Koeman said: "It took some time but finally we have signed the player.
Everton transfer news
"In my opinion, in his position he is one of the best in the Premier League. We have the player here and that's really good for the team."
The Toffees have agreed to pay £40m up front for Sigurdsson as well as possible add-ons of up to £5m.
Spurs are reportedly entitled to ten per cent of the fee due to a sell-on clause which was negotiated when Sigurdsson left White Hart Lane three years ago for £6.8m.
Sigurdsson becomes the 12th player to move into the Everton first-team squad this summer, as the club smash through the £100m barrier.
Koeman has spent £88.4m on Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane and Sandro Ramirez — meaning the club are now up to £133.4m with their summer spending.
