SOUTHAMPTON peppered the Swansea goal last Saturday yet failed to score - new boss Mauricio Pellegrino won't fancy that scenario again.

It means both sides will be seeking their first Premier League goal of the season as West Ham were stuffed 4-0 at Manchester United.

  • Southampton have won two of their last three Premier League games against West Ham, as many as in the previous nine combined.
  • The Hammers won this won fixture 3-1 in 2016-17, they last won consecutive away league games against Southampton in December 1952.
  • Southampton attempted 29 shots in their opening Premier League match of 2017-18 versus Swansea City, but only two of these were on target (7%).
  • Saints have failed to score in their last six home Premier League games – only Manchester City have ever had a longer such drought in the competition (eight games between January-May 2007).
  • The Hammers’ 0-4 loss at Man Utd was their biggest opening day defeat since 2002-03 (0-4 vs Newcastle); the season they suffered their first relegation from the Premier League.

  • The last time West Ham lost both of their opening two games to a league season was in 2010-11, the season they suffered their second relegation from the Premier League.
  • Since the start of last season, St. Mary’s has seen fewer goals than any other Premier League stadium (excluding promoted sides), with just 38 goals being scored in 20 games at the ground (F17 A21).
  • Indeed, St. Mary’s has also seen more goalless draws (5) than any other ground in that time. Southampton will be the first team to play four successive Premier League games at home since Blackpool in April 2011.
  • Mark Noble, who netted in West Ham’s 3-1 in February, has scored more league goals versus Southampton than any other team (5).
