Leicester City winger Tom Lawrence completes £7m switch to Championship side Derby County

DERBY COUNTY completed a £7million deal to bring Tom Lawerence to Pride Park Stadium, reports claim.

After undergoing a medical yesterday, the winger completed his signing today of a long-term contract, according to

Lawrence signed with Leicester City following their promotion to the Premier League in September 2014 from Manchester United but has spent the majority of the time on loan spells, only making four appearances for the Foxes.

Last term the winger impressed while on loan at Ipswich, scoring 11 goals to garner the attention from a number of clubs around the Championship.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare was also keen to keep Lawrence and was understood to initially turn down Derby’s bid.

But the wantaway 23-year-old made it known to the club he was looking to leave for the chance to play regular first-team football.

That is what he could find at Derby County, who have had a poor start to the new season with a draw at Sunderland before a 2-0 loss in their first home game against Wolverhampton.

Lawrence has been a key target for Rams boss Gary Rowett all summer as a replacement for Tom Ince, who was sold to Huddersfield Town.

Rowett is desperate to add much-needed creativity and speed to the Rams attack and will hope the talented midfielder can supply that.

During his three seasons at Leicester the Manchester United academy graduate also spent time on loan at Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City.
