Kylian Mbappe’s transfer from Monaco to PSG could see him overtake Neymar as world’s most expensive player

Brazilian cost £198m when he quit Barcelona to move to Paris but deal for Monaco sensation set to become the most expensive ever

KYLIAN MBAPPE is on course to become the world's most expensive player amid claims Paris Saint-Germain have agreed to pay more than £200million to Monaco for the striker.

Mbappe is set to complete his stunning switch to PSG after the Qatari-backed club won the race for the signature of the hottest prospect in the game.

But the claim the deal agreed with Monaco is higher even than the £198m the club paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona a fortnight ago.

The Brazilian smashed the previous world record deal involving Paul Pogba when PSG paid his huge release clause to get him out of Barca.

But it has now been revealed Monaco have only agreed to sell for an initial fee of £173m - but insisted on a series of extra instalments and bonuses to be written into the deal.

Those payments are understood to be worth upwards of £30m - which will take the total cost of the transfer past the value of Neymar.

Mbappe's move to the French capital is expected to be formally completed this week as PSG complete a summer of transfer activity that has seen them become the biggest club in the world.

They now boast a squad that is expected to walk Ligue 1 this season and also make a serious challenge for the Champions League.

There are obvious questions over how the club can come close to meeting Uefa's Financial Fair Play regulations, with a £400m investment on two players stunning the football world.

And they could be set to spend even more money amid suggestions Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez is another player they want to sign.

Sanchez is understood to have travelled to Paris for a break with his partner, though the French media claim his agent is also in the city trying to negotiate a move from Arsenal.

Arsenal have insisted they have no intention of selling the Chilean forward, but Sanchez remains unsettled in North London and may still quit before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
