Arsenal confident Mesut Ozil will stay after HUGE breakthrough in contract negotiations
ARSENAL believes they have made a breakthrough in the negotiations to keep Mesut Ozil at the Emirates.
Ozil’s is giving the impression that he is preparing to accept the £225,000-a-week on offer.
His representatives have been trying to find another club in Europe but there have been no takers on that kind of money.
The Gunners have been sweating on his and fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez’s future.
However, they now look like they are set to secure at least one of their stars.
Wenger raised eyebrows when he claimed having players in the last year of their contracts was ideal.
Sanchez, Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere all have contracts expiring in 12 months.
And that means the club are at risk of losing a number of key assets without recouping any money for them.
Meanwhile, the German winger has returned to training with Arsenal.
The 28-year-old now looks set to feature for Arsene Wenger’s side in Friday’s Premier League opener against Leicester City.
Despite Ozil’s appearance, Sanchez is out with an abdominal strain.
The Chilean striker is set to be sidelined for the Foxes clash and remains a doubt for their trip to Stoke a week later.
Aaron Ramsey, who was considered doubtful by boss Wenger after carrying a calf injury, also returned to the squads training session.
Per Mertesacker featured, despite carrying a war wound above his eye after his collision with Gary Cahill.
