Rafa Benitez to drop bombshell on Jack Colback by leaving him out of Newcastle’s Premier League squad
Magpies boss will reportedly leave former Sunderland midfielder out of his 25-man list as he attempts to raise extra transfer funds by selling the 27-year-old
RAFA BENITEZ is preparing to drop a huge bombshell to Jack Colback by leaving him out of his Premier League squad.
The midfielder's time on Tyneside looks to be over as the Magpies boss prepares to ditch the star from his 25-man list.
His availability will spark interest from a host of Championship sides - although his wage demands could prove a stumbling block to any potential deal.
He still has two years remaining on his deal at St. James' Park.
Colback appeared to be in Benitez's plans ahead of their return to the Premier League.
He had featured in all of Newcastle's pre-season campaign until last weekend.
Former Real Madrid and Liverpool chief Benitez left him on the bench for the victory over Wolfsburg.
And the manager admitted he is trying to shift a number of his players on in order to raise some extra transfer funds.
He said: "We are trying to move players out to bring players in.
"We know where we are and what we need."
Colback raised eyebrows when he left bitter rivals Sunderland on a free transfer to move to Newcastle in 2014.
Benitez has also ordered Tim Krul, Achraf Lazaar and Emmanuel Riviere to train with the club's academy after telling them they no longer figure in his plans.
