Thomas Christiansen's side got off to a dream start after a move straight from the training ground paid off in the seventh minute.

Phillips darted to the near post and Pablo Hernandez rolled it into his path from a corner and the midfielder guided his shot into the far corner with the help of a deflection.

Wood, who is wanted by Brighton, then doubled the Whites' lead after Kemar Roofe's cross was kept alive by Ergjan Alioski to allow the forward to head the ball in off the underside of the cross bar.

After causing problems through their direct style of play, Bolton pulled one back through Gary Madine after he dominantly headed the ball in from close range.

But before the break, Leeds regained their two-goal lead through Phillips in the 41st minute.

Hernandez slipped in Wood who took the 'keeper out of the equation by squaring it to the academy graduate who knocked it into an empty net.

Christiansen's side came out and dominated the early exchanges of the second half but could not increase their lead.

And Bolton made them pay for it after Le Fondre smashed a penalty down the middle in the 67th minute.

Referee Simon Hooper pointed to the spot after Leeds substitute Conor Shaughnessy almost pulled Gary Madine's shirt over his head during a corner.

Bolton then proved they can compete at this level despite their transfer ban but after applying immense pressure they could not find an equaliser.
