Bayern think the England midfielder, 23, might be available and believe they have more chance of getting him than Manchester United who were rebuffed this summer.

Spurs have come under fire for selling without buying in this window — so it would be a major decision for supremo Daniel Levy and coach Mauricio Pochettino.

But if there is a hint that Dier fancies Munich — after the collapse of the United switch — then they could set up the sale and look for a replacement.

Pochettino has been tracking Everton midfielder but has been put off by hos own £50 price-tag.

But the extra cash from Dier’s sale could help to get that move over the line.

Dier has become a key figure at White Hart Lane since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
