Seagulls chief Chris Hughton has finally been given the chance to spend big to find a new frontman for their Premier League challenge

Wood, 25, had a spell on loan at Brighton in 2010-11 and is seen as the perfect man to lead their line.

The Premier League new-boys would pay around £12million for him —  but even that might not be enough.

The Seagulls may turn to Huddersfield contract rebel Nahki Wells, 27, if the Wood move fails.

But they are  losing hope in the chase for defender Joe Gomez.

They want him  on loan but he is fighting to stay at Liverpool.
