Brighton boss Chris Hughton launches club-record £12million move for Leeds hotshot Chris Wood
Seagulls chief belatedly has a bumper jackpot to spend - and is chasing last season's Championship top scorer
BRIGHTON boss Chris Hughton is making a record-breaking move for Leeds ace Chris Wood.
Hughton has belatedly been given a bumper jackpot to spend and he has his sights on Wood who tore up the Championship with 30 goals last season.
Wood, 25, had a spell on loan at Brighton in 2010-11 and is seen as the perfect man to lead their line.
The Premier League new-boys would pay around £12million for him — but even that might not be enough.
The Seagulls may turn to Huddersfield contract rebel Nahki Wells, 27, if the Wood move fails.
But they are losing hope in the chase for defender Joe Gomez.
They want him on loan but he is fighting to stay at Liverpool.
