Lookman, 19, played eight times for Everton last term following his move from Charlton but has remained mostly on the bench in pre-season.
But Everton will surely think closely before letting Lookman leave.
He impressed many observers last season with his his rapid progress after stepping up two levels to the Premier League.
And the Toffees' fit-again ex-England winger Aaron Lennon, 30, is thought to be considering a loan move to Watford.
So Everton chief Ronald Koeman will worry about letting too many players depart at the moment, even though a temporary spell in the Championship would surely toughen Lookman up.
