Southampton transfer news: Juve midfielder Mario Lemina set for Saints medical on Sunday

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from Stoke City, but it looks he could be on his way to Maurico Pellegrino's side

JUVENTUS star Mario Lemina is set for a Southampton medical on Sunday, according to reports.

The 23-year-old is poised to join the ranks at St Mary’s in a £13.5million deal, despite strong interest from Stoke City.

According to , sources close to the player claim that the Gabon international will undergo a medical to sign for the Saints.

The report states that the Potters still remain keen on bringing the central midfielder to the bet365 Stadium as they look to hijack the deal.

It was reported by  on Friday that officials from Mark Hughes’ side and the Old Lady were meeting later that day to hold talks over a permanent deal.

However it appears that Maurico Pellegrino has stolen a march on their Premier League rivals, and could wrap up the transfer in a matter of days.

Southampton have only brought in one major signing this surname – defender Jan Bedranek from Polish side Lech Poznan on a five-year deal.

Juventus are currently in England this weekend, as they face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Stoke are also interested in signing Mario Lemina, where they face a battle with the Saints

Lemina still has three years left to run on his deal in Turin with the Serie A champions after signing from French club Marseille in 2015.

However he has struggled to cement a place in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting 11, and is on the hunt for regular first team football outside of Italy.

In two seasons with Juventus, he has won back-to-back Serie A titles as well as two Coppa Italia crowns, where he has made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring on three occasions.
