MONACO have played down fears over the injury Kylian Mbappe suffered in their opening game against Toulouse.

At a post-match press conference, head coach Leonardo Jardim was at pains to suggest that the injury was not serious and they expect Mbappe to be better in several days.

Speaking after the match, Jardim said: "It's nothing serious.

"In two or three days it will be better."

The Ligue 1 champions began their title defence by winning at home, coming twice from behind to win at home.

Monaco made it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, but have already lost several players from this squad.

In his debut season for the senior squad Mbappe scored 15 goals in Ligue 1, and attracted interest from all over Europe.

He has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid, but has reportedly expressed a desire to play for Champions League winners, Real Madrid.

The French league may have a very different dynamic next season after PSG spent £198m signing Neymar.

Monaco play Dijon away on Saturday, August 13 in their next fixture, hoping to top the table for the second time after they waited 17 years to win the league.
