MANCHESTER UNITED youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah is wanted by Watford on loan.
The versatile 19-year-old can play at right-back, centre-back and in central midfield, and is highly thought of at Old Trafford.
So far he has featured in every one of United's pre-season games.
But Watford, whose five summer signings include former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah and Derby youth product Will Hughes, are ready to pounce.
The Hornets are no doubt wondering what first-team chances actually await Fosu-Mensah under Jose Mourinho, who is hardly renowned for his reliance on youth.
Last season Fosu-Mensah made 11 appearances in all competitions for United but, by and large, was kept out of the squad by Mourinho.
claims the Red Devils are yet to decide on the 19-year-old's future and will make a call after next week's Uefa Super Cup clash with Real Madrid.
The fact is the signing of Nemanja Matic and expected arrival of Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain could make the Dutch Under 21 international surplus to requirements.
MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER STORIES
Mourinho defended his record of blooding youngsters after United's pre-season win over Real, saying:
"More than half of their team - which is their first team because they were only missing Ronaldo and Ramos - all these guys started with me and had debuts with me.
"They came into the first team with me, trained with me at 15 and 16 years old. Nacho, Casemiro, Carvajal, Morata, Marcelo was 20.
"So probably in a few years Manchester United will also have half a dozen of these kids."
