Chris Hughton's side have beaten the Terriers to the capture of the England youth international, just as SunSport revealed earlier on in the month.

Both newly-promoted clubs were hoping to have the versatile youngster on board as they navigate their first ever seasons in the Premier League.

Brown was officially unveiled as a Seagulls player yesterday, with Albion fielding their new man in in the pre-season win over Southend United last night.

The news will come as joy to Brighton fans who are desperate to see their side strengthen in their debut season in the Premier League.

Brown's versatility is likely to have caught the attention of Hughton, who can deploy him on the wings, as a No9 or 10, as well as in the central midfield area.

Signed from West Brom in 2013, he made his debut for Chelsea in the 2014/15 season, coming off the bench for the final 11 minutes in a 3-0 defeat against the Baggies.

Despite the solitary appearance, then-boss Jose Mourinho vowed he would be awarded with a Premier League winners medal for his contributions in the campaign.

A loan spell to feeder club Vitesse in the Eredivisie proved to be a success, scoring once in 22 appearances in all competitions in the 2015/16 season.

His loan to Rotherham United was terminated in January after 20 appearances, where he was later confirmed as a Huddersfield player the same day.

He went on to net five times in 21 games, where he started in the play-off final victory over Reading.
