The 23-year-old posted pictures of himself about to get on the plane to the US to his social media accounts.

And in a sign he is already in tune with the thoughts of the City fans, he included the Manchester Bee symbol on his posts.

The bee has come to symbolise the city of Manchester's past as a working community - and gained wider meaning following the terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert in May.

French international Mendy will meet City officials when he lands in LA this evening.

He is then expected to undergo a medical tomorrow before formally completing his move to the Eithad Stadium.

Once signed, Mendy will become the world's most expensive defender - taking the title from new City team-mate Kyle Walker just a week after he moved to the north-west from Tottenham.

It will also mean City have spent £121m on full-backs this summer after the club today confirmed the signing of Danilo from Real Madrid.

That figure could rise further with a small amount of Walker's fee potentially to rise depending on bonuses and success on the pitch.
