Arsene Wenger ‘100%’ expects Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to stay at Arsenal despite just a year left on deal
Ox has so far refused to sign a new deal at Emirates with Liverpool and Chelsea monitoring his situation
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger “100%” expects Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to stay at the Emirates this season.
The Ox has so far refused to commit his long-term future in North London with a year left to run on his current deal.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool and a possible switch to Chelsea in swap deal involving Nemanja Matic.
Wenger speaking after watching his side beat Western Sydney Warriors 3-1 insists the 23-year-old who started the game at wing-back earlier is going nowhere.
The Frenchman said: “100% expect him to stay, no matter what happens he will stay.”
Talks have reached an impasse between the Gunners top brass and the players representatives about extending his stay at the club.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton six years ago for £15million but has cut a frustrated figure over the last 18 months starting just 25 league games over the last two seasons.
Wenger also revealed the club have not bid for Monaco teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain profile
- Born in Portsmouth, in 1993
- Joined Southampton’s academy as a youngster and went onto make 36 league appearances
- Was the club’s second youngest player to make an appearance behind Theo Walcott
- Signed for Arsenal in 2011 for around £15m
- Became the youngest English goalscorer in Champions League history after scoring against Olympiacos in 2011
- Nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year after his first season in the Premier League
- Won the FA Cup three times
- Has over 25 caps for England
Mbappe valued at £120m is the most wanted player in the world and the Gunners boss expects the French international to stay with the Ligue 1 champions for at least another season.
Wenger added: “We have not made an offer, I think he will stay (at Monaco), it looks like that for one more season, maybe he has too much choice, in the end, people don’t move.”
