The Etihad chief has demanded THREE new full-backs  this summer.

But he has not managed to land any, with Spurs now expected to increase their £50m asking price for Kyle Walker.

That has led to City stepping up their pursuit of Southampton left-back Bertrand, 27.

Saints do not want to sell but a bid in the region of £30m could sway them.

Bertrand was a shock pick when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final.

He moved to St Mary’s for £10m two years ago and craves another shot at the big time.

City have been in fruitless talks with Spurs over Walker for several weeks.

They rate the England right-back at £40m.

But Tottenham were already asking for £50m and chairman Daniel Levy is likely to up that price now that City have missed out on Alves.

SunSport revealed this week how Spurs are considering a move for City striker Kelechi Iheanacho as part of the deal.

Walker is due back at Spurs in the next few days and looks likely to be heading out on a pre-season trip to America with his current club — rather than City.
