Juan Carlos Osorio was handed a red card after using insulting language in dramatic 2-1 third-place play-off loss to Portugal
MEXICO head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has been handed a six-game ban for abuse of officials during the Confederations Cup.
Osorio was sent off during his side's 2-1 third-place match loss against Portugal.
He was found to have acted aggressively toward the officials, while also using insulting language toward them.
A red card was produced when Osorio got into the fourth official's face after referee Fahad Al-Mirdasi declined to whistle for what looked to be a penalty on Hirving Lozano late in extra time.
A statement from the FIFA disciplinary committee read:
“After taking into account all circumstances of the case, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that Mr Osorio is regarded as having breached article 49.1 a) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
“As a result, and given the gravity of the incident, Mr Osorio is to be suspended for six official matches and has also been sanctioned with a warning and a fine of CHF 5,000.”
