MANCHESTER UNITED are still keen on Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier.
And they are ready to splash out £50million to land their man.
That's despite United moving ever closer to a £75m deal with Everton for striker Romelu Lukaku.
According to the Dier has become a top United target given that Chelsea are now unlikely to sell Nemanja Matic to them.
Such is the Stamford Bridge response to Jose Mourinho and his Old Trafford associates for hijacking Lukaku's move to Chelsea.
Dier, apparently, has been the subject of one unsuccessful bid from United already this summer.
The 23-year-old England international has always been Mourinho’s top midfield target and United have not stopped working on negotiations.
Dier fancies the prospect of a permanent midfield spot at United, where he also double his £75,000-a-week wages.
MANCHESTER UNITED TRANSFER STORIES
For his part, United boss Mourinho is desperate for cover in the defensive area of midfield going into the new season.
He is seeking to re-balance the middle of the park, especially with Champions League football assured.
Dier, incidentally, broke his ankle at the end of the season though and will not be back in action until mid-September.
Should the Red Devils fail to convince Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to sell Dier, then Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl is another alternative to Matic.
