Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger ‘to shatter transfer record with £50m Alexandre Lacazette swoop with deal set to be completed this weekend’
The French striker is set to turn down the chance to move to Atletico Madrid and join up with Arsene Wenger's outfit
ARSENAL are set to smash their transfer record by shelling out £50million for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The French striker is set to snub a potential January move to Atletico Madrid to sign on the dotted line for Arsene Wenger's men.
The deal will smash the current highest fee the Gunners have paid out. Mesut Ozil joined the club back in 2013 for £42.5m from Real Madrid.
French newspaper L'Equipe are reporting that
And BBC Sport are saying that the Gunners are "close to completing the Lacazette deal", and that a fee has been agreed and he just has to "have medical and finalise terms".
But Lyon are desperate to find a replacement BEFORE closing the finer details of any move.
The French club’s president has previously admitted to receiving a “very nice” over from Arsenal for the striker.
Arsenal Transfer News
Jean-Michel Aulas says that he is preparing for Lacazette’s exit – but will only let him leave if he can find a replacement.
Aulas said: “Alexandre should have left for Atletico, but that could not be done.
“He wants to leave and we want to keep him, but the decision is not made.
“The case would obviously be the arrival of a player capable of scoring 25 to 30 goals per year.
"It will be a French international or a player of a very large European club."
Aulas has consistently changed his tune through the Lacazette saga.
Just days ago - despite signing Bertrand Traore from Chelsea - he claimed Lacazette would not be sold.
But now Aulas appears to have softened his stance over his willingness to hold onto Wenger's long-term target.
