Chelsea transfer news: Tiemoue Bakayoko undergoes medical at Chelsea as Monaco midfielder edges closer to completing move to Premier League champions
TIEMOUE BAKAYOKO has undergone his Chelsea medical ahead of his £35million move from Monaco.
SunSport understands Bakayoko met up with the Blues medical team in London this week to go through his physical checks, with only a few minor details to iron out with the French champions over the deal.
And the club are hoping to announce the capture of the central midfielder when the summer transfer window opens on Saturday.
Manchester United were also believed to be in the hunt for the 22-year-old France midfielder.
But it is believed Bakayoko decided to join Chelsea over United because he is keen to work with Antonio Conte rather than Jose Mourinho.
Interestingly, his move to Stamford Bridge could pave the way for one Blues midfielder to re-unite with Mourinho.
Nemanja Matic, who was in and out of the starting XI last season, is believed to have been eyed by United in a sensational £40m swoop.
And with Bakayoko incoming, that could see Matic's switch to Old Trafford drift closer.
Bakayoko could be joined by Juventus' Alex Sandro as the first two signings of the summer for Antonio Conte's side.
Sandro is rumoured to be a £60m target as the Premier League champions step up their squad strengthening programme.
The Brazilian international would become the most expensive defender in world football should the left-back finalise a move to Stamford Bridge.
Conte has told owner Roman Abramovich he needs at least four players added to his title winning squad if he is to mount a serious challenge for the Champions League.
Now Abramovich is on the verge of splashing out £95m in the first week of July - with more to follow as Chelsea chase a top class defender and world class striker.
Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci is also on Conte's wishlist, with Southampton's Virgil van Dijk another option if he fails to land the Italy star.
And Chelsea are still hoping to push through a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton, who are demanding around £80m for the Belgian striker.
The Blues believe they can persuade the Merseyside club to lower the price to £70m and are hopeful of pushing through that deal within the next two weeks.
