Now, after two Prem titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup, he admits that a stint back at Lazio would be too appealing to turn down.

He told Il Messaggero: “I’d like to return one day because Rome remains in my heart.

“I am no longer young but I can still have a say.

“I’ve won everything in Manchester but Italy is something else.

And he expects the club, who finished fifth in Serie A last season, to wrap up a deal for Atalanta skipper Alejandro Gomez.

The 68-cap Serbian also hailed countryman and Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Liverpool are said to have seen a £24m bid for the midfielder, 22, slapped down and Arsenal are also monitoring him.

Kolarov added: “I’m sure Lazio will have a strong squad for Europa League and in my opinion, they’ll get Gomez.

“Regarding Milinkovic-Savic, he’s an amazing player, he’s Lazio’s and the national team’s future”.

Kolarov remains Pep Guardiola’s only full-back at present after City let Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna leave.

Guardiola is close to bagging Dani Alves, while he also wants Kyle Walker.
