Frank Lampard could be Oxford United’s next manager as League One side go in search of successor for Michael Appleton
Former Chelsea and England star only hung up his boots in February but already looks set for first spell in dug-out
FRANK LAMPARD is in line to become the next Oxford United boss.
The former Chelsea star called quits on his playing career in February after a spell in the US with New York City.
But Lampard looks set to move straight into management after becoming Oxford’s top choice to replace Michael Appleton, who is now assistant gaffer at Leicester.
Lamps is good friends with Oxford’s director Dave Jones, who is leading a three-man panel to find their next manager.
A decision could be made soon ahead of the new League One season, with Lampard previously revealing his desire to become a boss.
He said in March: “I want to manage. Most of my career I wasn’t sure but when I got into my thirties I became a lot more interested.
“Much as I’m interested in coaching I’ve just as much interest in how to deal with people.”
