New Zealand 0 Portugal 4: Ronaldo scores penalty as Euro 2016 winners romp to top of group A
New Manchester City man Bernardo Silva doubled the lead, Andre Silva netted the third and Nani the fourth in an easy win in St Petersburg
CRISTIANO RONALDO scored a penalty as Euro 2016 winners Portugal romped to the top of group A at the Confederations Cup in Russia.
New Manchester City man Bernardo Silva doubled the lead and Andre Silva netted the third in an easy win in St Petersburg.
Danilo was felled on the half hour mark by a combination of Tom Doyle and Tommy Smith - and Real Madrid legend Ron made no mistake from the spot, firing high into the back of the net.
Two minutes later new £43million City man Silva finished from a few yards out from Eliseu's low cross.
It stayed at 2-0 until the 80th minute, when Ricardo Quaresma won the ball in midfield and fed new AC Milan man Andre Silva, who smashed a shot home from 20 yards.
And to put the gloss on a comprehensive result for Fernando Santos' men when substitute and ex-Manchester United man Nani swept a low shot into the net from an angle to seal the 4-0 win.
Prior to the game, Ronaldo had brushed off allegations of tax evasion with stellar performances in the 2-2 draw with Mexico and 1-0 victory over hosts Russia, where he scored the winner.
Portugal will now be joined in the semi-final by Mexico - while hosts Russia got dumped out of the tournament on home soil.
