Manchester City ‘increasingly confident’ they can sign Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez this summer

Sanchez has a year left on his contract but has so far refused to commit his long-term future to Arsenal

MANCHESTER CITY are becoming increasingly confident of pulling off a sensational £50million deal to land Alexis Sanchez this summer.

The 28-year-old has a year left on his Arsenal contract, but there has been no sign yet of the striker wanting to extend his stay in North London.

Sanchez  is away with Chile at the Confederations Cup in Russia and scored for the South American champions against World Cup winners Germany in the 1-1 draw in Kazan yesterday.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate for his main man to stay, and the club are prepared to offer Sanchez a new deal worth £275,000-a-week to fight off any potential suitors.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are still in the mix for Sanchez, but Pep Guardiola has made the striker he signed from Udinese while at Barca his top target.

City are understood to be waiting for the conclusion of the tournament in Russia before tabling a bid for Sanchez, who cut a frustrated figure at times last term despite hitting 30 goals, his best return for the club.

Sanchez is keen to link up again with Guardiola after working together for just a year in Catalonia. And with no Champions League football on offer next season, and wages demands of in excess of £300,000-a-week, the Chilean looks keen to move on.

And it could be another summer where Wenger is again fighting a losing battle to keep a star player at the Emirates.
