United are a team close to Ronaldo's heart, as he was quoted in 2014 by the Telegraph as saying: “I love Manchester

"Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart.

“I left many good friends there. The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”

But now, amidst all the panic in Madrid, his team-mates have reportedly told Marca he's only saying this to land a better pay packet.

Back in 2012, three years into his time at the La Liga giants, Ron threatened to leave, claiming: "I'm sad and the club know why."

The stunt landed him a lucrative new contract at the club, as Real went on to dominate Europe from that moment on.

Ronaldo originally claimed he wanted to leave as he was disappointed with the way the club dealt with his tax scandal.

He is said to feel the club has not protected him sufficiently after he was charged with allegedly evading £13million in tax.

El Confidencial claim Real contacted all the Spanish media outlets and requested them not to publish pictures of Ronaldo in a Madrid shirt when covering the tax story.

The star forward was also puzzlingly left out of a video promo for Madrid’s new kit.

But while CR7 has given a long and reasonably convincing list of reasons to leave, his team-mates aren't buying into it, saying it's all a stunt.
