Sanchez still has one year left on his current deal with the Gunners and though Arsene Wenger wants him to stay, he knows he is fighting a losing battle to keep hold of his star player.

Premier League rivals City have made a strong play in an attempt to take the Chile international to the Etihad Stadium.

But Bayern have now emerged as clear favourites in the battle for his services, with the player’s agent Fernando Felicevich already holding talks with the Bundesliga champions.

“I’d like a lot of things but I’m only thinking about the national team.”

Wenger has made it clear in the past that he does not want to sell to a Premier League rival should he lose the argument to convince Sanchez to stay.

They are planning to put a deal worth £275,000-a-week on the table in one final effort to persuade the former Barcelona man to stay in north London.

But a departure is now more likely, with Bayern becoming the clear favourites to wrap a deal up.
