Arsenal eye Sunderland ace Jordan Pickford as Wojciech Szczesny edges towards £14million Juventus switch
Arsene Wenger hoping to land the sought-after Black Cats No1 after landing full-back Sead Kolasinac earlier on Tuesday
ARSENAL are eyeing up a move for Sunderland ace Jordan Pickford as Wojciech Szczesny edges towards his £14million Juventus switch.
The Black Cats No1, 23, has been chased by a host of clubs already this summer - with the Stadium of Light side laughing off an £8m bid from Everton already.
Boss Arsene Wenger is looking for goalkeeping reinforcements as David Ospina is widely expected to leave the Emirates this summer for Fenerbahce.
Pickford is also on the radar of West Ham, with the London Stadium side willing to spend around £25m to land their man.
However, Roma - where Szczesny, 27, has spent two years on loan - have not given up hope of keeping the Polish stopper.
President of the Serie A side, James Palotta, said: "He told me that he wanted to stay with us.
"I'll say more, I was surprised by the fact some of the players I thought had wanted to leave came up to me before and after the final game to say they wanted to remain.
"It's a sign we've got a good group, we just lack some depth and Monchi [director of football] will help us with that."
However, Szczesny has been targeted by the Juventus as their long-term No1 when Italian legend Buffon hangs up his gloves.
Either way, Arsenal are set to add to their defensive ranks - after confirming the signing of Sead Kolasinac on Tuesday - by swooping for Pickford.
The English stopper turned out 32 times in all competitions for Sunderland in 2016-17 as he established himself as the obvious choice for No1.
He is widely expected to move to a Premier League club after the Black Cats were relegated to the Championship.
