Arsenal have sensational £87million bid for wonderkid Kylian Mbappe rejected by Monaco, as the Gunners chase the ‘next Thierry Henry’ this summer
ARSENAL have seen a sensational £87million bid for wonderkid Kylian Mbappe rejected by Monaco.
Arsene Wenger has celebrated his new two-year deal by making club record bid for sought-after French superstar.
Arsenal are now the third club to have a monstrous offer rejected by the Ligue 1 champions, according to L'Equipe television.
Real Madrid saw a world-record £105m bid snubbed - while a further unnamed team were unsuccessful in their quest to land the 'next Thierry Henry'.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen to land Mbappe, with Arsenal considered outsiders.
Wenger is notoriously frugal in the transfer market, but has promised to spend big this summer in a bid to boost his squad, after being rewarded with a new two-year contract.
Wenger is keen to kick-off his 'fresh start' by making Mbappe the centrepiece of a new-look squad.
Monaco are determined to keep hold of their prized asset this summer, having already lost Bernardo Silva to Man City.
A host of other stars, including Fabinho are also set to leave the French champions.
The club are aiming to tie Mbappe down to a new contract as soon as possible to tie him to the Stade Louis II for as long as possible.
Earlier this week, Wenger revealed he would stop at nothing to win the Premier League again.
He said: “We are looking at what we do well and how we can be stronger everywhere.
“This is a strong group of players and with some additions we can be even more successful.
"We’re committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season."
Wenger claimed he tried to sign Mbappe last summer, saying: “The player would tell you that I was at his home last year to try to get him.
“He was at the end of his contract but Monaco managed to keep him and the decision was very, very tight.
"But I could understand it as well because he was educated there and at the end decided to stay there.”
