Fantasy football: The 5 best Premier League midfielders last season

  • Dream Team's fantasy football game opens again on July 7 2017 - five weeks before the start of the season
  • We've looked back at the best midfielders last season

The culmination to the Premier League and fantasy football season has hit us like it always does - like a steam train to the face.

But this summer, given the lack of a major international tournament to sink our teeth into, is even tougher than last year with no football to occupy ourselves with.

How does the game work?

  • This year's fantasy football game will absolutely FREE for all players to play
  • The total prize pot is an approximated £750,000
  • Game Weeks will run from Friday to Thursday
  • £50m budget on 11 eligible players

Chelsea are champions, Tottenham ‘applied the pressure’ once again but fell short and Hull, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are all saying goodbye to the top flight.

Eriksen’s form in 2017 was nothing short of sensational considering a patchy start to the season that had even Tottenham fans questioning his ability.

He more than answered his critics though, emerging as Spurs’ main creative hub and driving their ultimately unsuccessful late season challenge to Chelsea’s crown.

Since Game Week 25 he earned an incredible five Star Man awards and scored 11o points, but it just wasn't quite enough to earn him the spot as top Dream Team midfielder.

3 Paul Pogba (Manchester United) – 236

Anyone who believes Pogba underperformed in his first season back in England is clearly narrow-minded and too obsessed with individual goal return.

The Manchester United midfielder was one of the most consistent performers last campaign and while his goals and assist categories might not shine, his influence on games cannot be underestimated.

Pogba regularly has the most touches and completes the most passes which means he’s an algorithm favourite.

4 Dele Alli (Tottenham) – 219

Like team-mate Harry Kane, Alli emphatically silenced those who suggested he might be a one-season wonder by getting even better.

The feisty England man, albeit playing more as a second striker, scored more goals than any midfielder in Europe by hitting 22 in all competitions.

Can he get even better this season?

5 Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 214

De Bruyne, on his day, is probably the most effective player in the Premier League and his 18 assists – a league high – illustrate that.

The classy Belgian was utilised in a number of different positions by Pep Guardiola last season and he flourished in pretty much every single one.

His understanding with David Silva makes City the most exciting team to watch going forward when they’re at full throttle.

When can I sign up?

You can start getting your teams in as early as July 7 2017 – some five weeks before the Premier League season gets underway.

That gives you an awfully long time to monitor the transfer market and choose your team accordingly, with Bernardo Silva the first major coup of the summer after his £43m move to Manchester City.
