There are still tricky negotiations between the long-serving Frenchman, who redeemed a terrible season with the FA Cup win, and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

Gazidis wants a sporting director to work alongside Wenger, which the latter is extremely against - so a compromise needs to be reached.

But one thing Gazidis and the board do reportedly accept is a squad overhaul is needed and fund have to be made to change that in the summer.

And the likes of Leicester's Riyad Mahrez, Leipzig's Emil Forsberg, AC Milan's Carlos Bacca and Monaco's Thomas Lemar have all been rumoured in what is sure to be a busy summer - and all will cost relatively big money.

But that kitty could increase further should Wenger be able to get rid of a whole host of flops and deadwood at the Emirates.

Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Wojciech Szczesny, David Ospina, Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy all look set to leave and bring down the wage bill.

And balancing the outs, Wenger must battle to keep hold of star men Alexis Sanchez - wanted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchster City and Bayern Munich - and Mesut Ozil.

Neither signed contract extensions, and the lack of Champions League football could be a crucial factor in not being able to keep players of their quality.
