Ederson becomes world’s most expensive goalkeeper after signing for Manchester City from Benfica for £34.9m
BENFICA have released a statement confirming Ederson has joined Manchester City for a world record fee of £34.9million.
The stopper, 23, is Pep Guardiola's second signing of the summer after they confirmed the capture of Bernardo Silva from Monaco last week.
The Brazilian is yet to gain a cap from his country but is in the squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Argentina and Australia.
Ederson's transfer fee beats the £33million paid for Gianluigi Buffon when he moved from Parma to Juventus for in 2001.
Guardiola's move looks to finally end Joe Hart's unlikely chances of rekindling his tilt for the No1 jersey at the Etihad.
As of Tuesday night, Ederson's representatives from Jorge Mendes' Gestifute agency were thrashing out the final details of his contract at the club.
Ederson pretty much gave the game away on Instagram as he showed a picture of a toy Queen Elizabeth statuette in front of what appears to the car park at the City Football Academy.
