Leicester and West Bromwich lead £20million race for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson
Sought-after defender seeks to preserve his England prospects now Boro have fallen back into the Championship
MIDDLESBROUGH defender Ben Gibson could preserve his Premier League status with a move to either Leicester City or West Bromwich.
Gibson, rated at £20million, is concerned that his England career could be affected by life in the Championship with relegated Boro.
Gareth Southgate called up the 24-year-old in March and Gibson is likely to be involved in the end-of-season internationals with Scotland and France.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Stoke City and Tottenham have also kept tabs on Gibson but Leicester and West Brom have both scouted him extensively and are thought to be his most likely suitors.
Gibson enjoyed an excellent season in a failing team which is owned by his uncle Steve.

Leaving Teesside would be a massive blow to a player who spent the early part of his career on loan at Plymouth, York and Tranmere.
He has made 152 appearances for Boro, having joined the club in 2009.
But he recognises that he needs to take stock of his career.
“I think every player in the world wants to play in the Premier League, everyone wants to play at the top level," said Gibson.
"I’m no different to that. What I would say is that no decision has been made regarding my future as of yet.”
