Leeds manager Garry Monk to be offered five-year deal to stay at Elland Road as they target a return to the Premier League

The former Swansea City boss has thrived with Peacocks this season as they narrowly avoided a play-off spot finishing seventh in the Sky Bet Championship

GARRY MONK will be offered a five-year deal to stay on as Leeds boss.

The 38-year-old will hold talks with Andrea Radrizzani about committing long-term to the Elland Road outfit after the Italian businessman completes his purchase of Massimo Cellino's 50 per cent stake in the club to become sole owner.

And he will give the former Swansea chief the guarantees he wants to persuade him to put pen to paper.

Monk, whose current contract runs out next month, has guided United to their best season since dropping out of the top flight 13 years ago.

And, after missing out on the play-offs by just five points, he is seeking assurances that Radrizzani will back another promotion bid next term.

Monk, who is being tracked by managerless duo Norwich and Middlesbrough, confirmed: "We are due to sit down in the coming weeks to go into more detail and discuss a variety of different matters.

"I have a clear idea of what it needs to go to the next stage, move forward and deliver a promotion-winning campaign.

"In these discussions, it's for me to see that the vision of the club and the owner is aligned with what I feel it needs to progress."

Meanwhile, Charlie Taylor is the first star to desert Leeds following their failure to get back into the big time.

The left-back, who refused to play in his side's final Championship game of the season at Wigan on Sunday, is joining West Brom on a Bosman free.

Taylor, 23, has snubbed offers of a new Elland Road deal over the past 12 months, insisting he was only interested in a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool have run regular checks on the defender, but the Baggies have won the battle to land him.

Leeds will be entitled to compensation for Taylor, and are expected to demand £4million for their academy graduate.
