NEWCASTLE UNITED were dramatically crowned champions on a thrilling final day of the Championship season on Sunday.
The Toon thumped Barnsley 3-0 at home, but needed Brighton and Hove Albion to drop points away to Aston Villa.
Despite taking the lead through a 64th-minute Glenn Murray penalty, they still failed to win the title - as Jack Grealish netted in the final minute to stun the visitors.
Brighton can still take solace in their promotion on the back of a superb season.
At the bottom of the table, it was drama until the death as well as Blackburn Rovers - starting the day in 22nd - Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City battling to avoid relegation.
Rovers needed a win - and held up their end of the deal, beating Brentford 3-1 in an impressive victory.
However, they needed one of Forest of the Blues to drop points - with the Nottingham club storming to a 3-0 win, with Britt Assombalonga scoring twice.
At Ashton Gate, Birmingham took an early lead thanks to Che Adams and were forced to cling on to their Championship status until the 96th-minute... which they did.
The result meant Blackburn - despite their big win - are relegated to League One.
Other results: Norwich 4-0 QPR, Burton 2-4 Reading, Huddersfield 0-3 Cardiff, Rotherham 1-1 Derby, Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Fulham, Wigan 1-1 Leeds, Wolves 1-0 Preston.
