Emre Can says his wonder-strike for Liverpool against Watford was the best goal he has ever scored – and the Hornets fans behind the goal seem to agree
Watford fans were left open-mouthed as Can angled home an acrobatic effort that is a contender for goal of the season
WATFORD fans were left open mouthed as they watched Emre Can's worldie fly into the goal for Liverpool.
In the second minute of added-on time, Lucas played the ball into the box, and Can angled home a terrific acrobatic overhead kick that beat Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes all ends up.
It is a certain goal of the season contender, and had many Hornets fans, as well as Liverpool ones, clapping in appreciation.
Those behind the goal will have been left similarly in shock in the dying seconds of the second half too - but in anger rather than appreciation.
As Watford threw the kitchen sink at Liverpool, desperate to secure a point from the Premier League clash, Sebastian Prodl smashed an effort that rebounded off the crossbar.
Liverpool managed to see the game out 1-0 that saw them secure a vital three points in their quest to finish in the top four.
For Watford meanwhile, although they are on the magical 40-point mark in the table, they will be looking over their shoulder with three games still to play.
Speaking about his goal, Can said: "I have never scored a goal like that - maybe when I was younger. That is the best goal I've ever scored.
"I saw the space and I ran behind and my first thought was that I wanted to head it, then I didn't think too much.
"But the most important thing was three points after knowing what happened yesterday. It was a big game for us.
"Everything is in our hands. If we win the three games we are in the Champions League. We are confident. If we perform how we can perform then we can do it."
