Wilfried Zaha to be offered double salary by Crystal Palace to keep him out of Tottenham’s clutches
Winger to be offered £120,000-a-week to make him one of Palace's top earners
WILFRIED ZAHA is set to open talks with Crystal Palace over a new double-your-money contract to keep him out of Tottenham’s clutches.
Zaha, 24, still has three years left on his £60,000-a-week Selhurst Park deal.
But he is set to be brought into line with top earners Christian Benteke and Yohan Cabaye, who bank £120,000 a week, after being linked with a £40million move to north London.
Boss Sam Allardyce said: “Wilfried’s contract has a considerable time to run.
“The summer will bring whatever it brings, whether it’s us negotiating a new contract and he wants to stay, or whether some outrageous bid comes along.
“I’m not in control of whether he stays.
“But he needs to stay here and play every week, and be the key man to Crystal Palace getting better and better.”
Asked whether a bid of £40million would persuade Palace to sell, Allardyce added: “I hope nobody bids it. I hope it’s not easy to turn Wilf’s head.
“He is a mature adult now. He’s seen an awful lot of what happens in football from a very young age, experienced a glory move to Manchester United, which didn’t quite work out, and then come back.
“But agents are ringing you every day.
“While he gets advice from outside here, I hope he draws on his own experiences and makes his own decisions.”
