According to talkSPORT broadcaster, Jim White, Ibrahimovic is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season.

It was a victory that came at a cost, with the 28-goal marksman landing awkwardly as his right led bent the other way while attempting to win a header.

Ibrahimovic rolled around the floor in agony before hobbling off the field without the use of a stretcher.

After the match, United boss Jose Mourinho was worried when asked about the extent of the injury.

Mourinho said: "I want to wait, but my feeling is not good for both. I want to wait and try to be optimistic, but I am not.”

In contrast, defender Luke Shaw appeared more confident and said: “He’s fine. He was walking around in the changing room.”

If the reports are true, Ibrahimovic may never play for the Red Devils ever again.

The forward has been heavily linked with moves away from Old Trafford, with MLS side Los Angeles FC rumoured to offer the forward £5m-a-season.

Ibrahimovic joins a long list of injured players at Old Trafford after Marcos Rojo also hobbled off against Anderlecht.

The Argentina international had to have lengthy treatment on the field after appearing to twist his knee in a 50-50 tackle.

The 27-year-old lasted 20 minutes before picking up his initial knee injury but was able to carry on playing.

However minutes later another collision saw Rojo go down in a heap and it became clear he was unable to continue.

Whilst Juan Mata, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are also out injured.
