But now childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo has dropped a huge hint that the forward could stay in Catalonia.
Antonella, 29, is to help open up a new high fashion shoe shop in Barcelona - along with the wife of Luis Suarez, Sofia.
Antonella and Sofia have been brought on board by Ricky Sarkany, a renowned Argentine fashion designer, who is launching his brand in Europe.
Suarez and Neymar have already signed new long-term contracts to stay at the Nou Camp but Messi is holding out for more money.
He was recently replaced as the world's best-paid footballer by rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed a deal worth around £356,000-a-week AFTER TAX.
