Manchester City flop Claudio Bravo set to stay at the Etihad next season and fight for his place
Chilean was thought to be facing the axe in the summer after a disastrous first season
CLAUDIO BRAVO is expected to STAY at Manchester City next season – and is brushing up on his English to help improve his dodgy performances.
The Chilean flop was thought to be facing the axe in the summer after a disastrous first season in goal at the Etihad.
But the 34-year-old stopper wants to remain at the club and fight for his spot, despite Pep Guardiola looking to sign a new number one this summer.
It is thought the ex-Barcelona boss wants to bring in £30m-rated Benfica ace Ederson Moraes, who is being targeted by Europe's top clubs.
An Etihad source said: “Claudio is planning to stay for at least next season. He is now getting to grips with the language to help with the demands of the league.
“Pep wants to bring in a new goalkeeper, but Claudio has no intention of cutting his losses and running in his first year of his contract.
“He is willing to fight for his spot in the starting eleven and he is hoping once his English improves, his communication with his defence will as well.”
Bravo kept a rare clean sheet on Saturday afternoon as City eased past Southampton 3-0 to help their top four hopes.
Guardiola now looks set to let Argentine ace Willy Caballero leave for free this coming summer when his contract runs out in June.
Ex-Real Sociedad star Bravo joined City from Barcelona in 2016 for £17m after they allowed Joe Hart to leave on loan to Torino.
But he has struggled in his first season at the Etihad, making just five clean sheets in 21 appearances so far.
