Leicester striker Jamie Vardy would get in Atletico Madrid team alongside Antoine Griezmann, claims Diego Godin
Veteran defender wary of the threat posed by England star ahead of Champions League clash
DIEGO GODIN insists Jamie Vardy would get into Atletico Madrid’s side as he plots a way to shut out the Leicester striker again tonight.
The frontman failed to hit the target as the Foxes went down 1-0 in the Spanish capital a week ago.
But he will be hoping to make his presence felt in the Champions League quarter final second-leg at the King Power Stadium.
And Godin says he and his team-mates are fully aware of the threat posed by the England international.
Speaking to the , the 31-year-old Uruguayan said: “He is a great player.
“He fights and competes in every game and never gives a single ball up for lost. A striker like that is fundamental for a team that plays the way Leicester do.
“They wouldn’t be the Leicester we know without him.”
Quizzed on whether he felt Vardy would get into Diego Simeone’s side, who already boast Antoine Griezmann in their attack, Godin added: “Of course he would.
“I think he would fit in at the vast majority of teams in the world.
“Who wouldn’t want a striker who kills himself for the team and then gives you so many attacking solutions?”
Vardy has found the net 13 times this season for Leicester, but only one has come in European competition.
