Newcastle are also preparing to rekindle their interest as they look at their options for the top flight next season.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez was interested in Osborn during the last transfer window but Forest were desperate to keep their man for the second half of the campaign.

Mark Warburton sees Osborn as a key man at the City Ground but the interest in getting him to the Premier League means a move is likely for one of the hottest properties in the Championship.

Osborn has three seasons of regular Championship football under his belt and has hero status among fans for his first senior goal being the winner against rivals Derby.

He is eligible for England Under-21s but has not played for the national team since youth-team level, despite his impressive form in the second tier.
