And St Peter’s College from Oxford, which is organising the fundraiser, have also requested guests to make a minimum donation of £1,000.

Followers of Man United have been quick to hit out at the pricey sums, dishing out some of the hairdryer treatment that Fergie was famed for throughout his distinguished career.

One posted online: “You would need a Premier League salary to afford a ticket to see Sir Alex. It’s bloody madness.”

While another said: “A thousand quid to see Sir Alex chat for an hour and then go and stand at a bar. You have to be joking.”

The event will be held on April 27 and the funds raised from the night will go towards the college’s Keys to Success campaign.

In the advertisement promoting the event, it says: “We are delighted to offer former students, their families, friends and business or professional clients the chance to spend an evening with Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Michael Moritz at a fundraising dinner.

“The cost of the dinner is £250 per person, with a suggested minimum donation of £1,000 per person in addition.”
Ferguson and Moritz are both doing the event entirely free in order to help raise money to enable Christ Church and St Peter's College to fund the research and teaching at Oxford while also providing bursaries for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
