The international airport on Madeira is to be renamed Cristiano Ronaldo Airport in tribute to island's superstar product
CRISTIANO RONALDO jetted in to open the international airport named after himself today - and was greeted by a bizarre bust supposed to depict him.
Ronaldo will attend the official renaming ceremony that will see Madeira International Airport renamed after the Real Madrid star as a tribute to the island's biggest hero.
The Portugal star was raised on Madeira and his family still live on the island he calls home, despite leaving to start his football career at the age of 16.

And he still remains a huge favourite with the population on Madeira, thousands of whom queued to catch a glimpse of their idol.
But there were a few puzzled looks around when officials revealed the bronze bust of the player that will adorn the newly named airport.
For there were some questioning whether the head and shoulders statue looked even remotely like the superstar footballer.
