London terror attack: England to pay tribute to victims of Westminster incident in World Cup tie with Lithuania

THE FA have revealed the England team will pay tribute to the victims of the Westminster terror attack at Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

The Three Lions took on Germany in a friendly international last night but it was decided the game was too soon to organise a suitable gesture of support.

FA chairman Greg Clarke said: "Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected by this terrible incident.

"We will be recognising the bravery of the security services and all those involved at the England v Lithuania match on Sunday."

The FA are now understood to be reviewing their own security procedures in light of today's attack.

England boss Gareth Southgate  told ITV: "Obviously our first thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives or been injured. It puts football into perspective.

"We are conscious that part of our identity as a nation is that we carry on in moments like this.

"We have left everything else to our hierarchy. In terms of any tribute, we felt that in London on Sunday was the right thing to do."

Three people are known to have died in the incident that took place in London early on Wednesday afternoon, including a policeman.

The officer was guarding the Houses of Parliament when he is said to have been stabbed by an assailant who had driven a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge.

The knife-wielding suspect was shot dead by police after ploughing the 4×4 into people and storming Parliament, leaving at least 20 injured – many “catastrophically”.

A Met police spokesman warned Londoners to be wary of copycat attacks, saying it would be "foolish" to dismiss the event as "over".

They added: “We have lost one of our own as he acted to protect the public.

“This is a day we planned for but hoped would never happen. Sadly it is now a reality.”

The suspect was shot by police after stabbing a cop, with three officers injured in the attack.

Paramedics were seen tending to him as armed cops trained their rifles on his stripped body outside Parliament.
