TOBY ALDERWEIRELD wants £100,000 a week to keep him in line with Tottenham's top earners Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.
The Belgian central defender is the only key first-teamer bar Victor Wanyama not to agree a new deal.
It seemed the 27-year-old was close to sealing a new contract with Spurs – with the deal also dropping his £25million release clause.
It seemed talks on a £75,000 a week deal would end with the defender signing on for another five years.
But it looks as though there has been a spanner in the works with Alderweireld, currently on £50,000 a week, seeking pay parity with England striker Kane and French keeper Lloris.

The reports that while both Kane and Lloris have deals that could earn them in excess of £100,000 per week, Spurs say their basic salaries fall within the club’s wage structure.
Alderweireld, who moved to White Hart Lane from Atletico Madrid in 2015. has been an important player in his Spurs set-up and has helped them to second in the Premier League table.
And the relationship between the former Ajax star and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is a massive reason for him wanting to extend his stay in north London.
Recent history suggests that player and club will find common ground as Spurs rarely allow an important to player to drift into the final 18 months of his contract.
Alderweireld has previously spoken about Pochettino and praised him as one of the best managers in the world.
He said: “The manager is very important. He has an idea how he wants us to play.
“Sometimes it’s a good result and sometimes a bad result — but he stands by his philosophy.
“He doesn’t want to change and it’s the way we want to get success, with good football and pressure."
Alderweireld has played 58 Premier League for Tottenham, finishing on the losing side only eight times.
But he did blunder against Southampton in Spurs’ 2-1 home win on Sunday in failing to cut out a left-wing cross.
