Born in Germany to Turkish parents, he joined the second tier side in 2013 and signed a four-year deal in 2015, before making his senior bow in August last year.
This is his breakthrough season having become an integral member of the side, making 18 appearances his club - currently in top spot - tries to get promoted back into the Bundesliga.
And it has emerged his efforts have caught the eye of a number of leading European clubs, including Arsenal - who despite the off-field turmoil are keeping close tabs.
His agent, Baris Yukselsen told : "Many top clubs are interested at Berkay.
"Arsenal has Berkay on its list, but at the moment he is focusing on Stuttgart’s resurgence."
This could be the young midfielder plying his trade in Germany who Arsenal scout Jurgen Kost confirmed this week they were interesting in purchasing.

He said: "I have been scouting a Turkish kid in Germany. I watched him 2-3 weeks ago, he plays in central midfield.
"I won’t give his name yet but he is very talented and we are considering signing him."
Arsenal continue to plan for next season despite their uncertain future, as the situation of long-serving manager Arsene Wenger remains unclear.
Fans want him gone after 20 years after poor league form at the Champions League two-legged humiliation to Bayern Munich.
But the north Londoners still need to look for replacements while key players still look set to be leaving the Emirates.
The likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all look to be heading towards the exit door as they continue to disagree with Wenger’s management style.
But the Arsenal scouting team have still been identifying players they believe can take the club forward in whatever situation.
