Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez ready to sell striker Aleksandar Mitrovic at the end of the season

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC looks set to leave Newcastle in the summer - after being axed from their last two squads.

The Serbian, 22, has been demoted to Rafa Benitez’s third-choice striker having scored just four goals in 19 Championship appearances this term.

And Mitrovic is now likely to be shown the door at the end of the season, when boss Benitez will add further firepower for what looks certain to be a top-flight return.

Veteran Daryl Murphy has been Newcastle’s preferred frontman in their last two games, with 21-goal top scorer Dwight Gayle having just returned from injury.

While Mitrovic has been discarded, after failing to impress in the four starts he was given in February.

The hothead hitman moved to St James’ Park in a £13million move in July 2015, scoring nine Premier League goals last season.

Mitrovic has attracted attention from clubs in Serie A, while a bottom-half Prem side might also take a chance on him.
