FORMER Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Souza was arrested in his team's DRESSING ROOM for alleged fraud.
Souza, who plays for Brasiliense in one of Brazil's regional leagues, was nabbed on Thursday as his team were preparing for a game.
He was about to head out onto the pitch after his team-mates had warmed up before being held back in the dressing room.
The charge, according to , relates to a tax offence from 2015
Souza's name has been linked with a crime involving image right contracts with high-profile clubs Sao Paulo, Fluminense and Gremio.
Souza, now 38, has played for a string of clubs in his career but lasted longest with Sao Paulo between 2003 and 2008.
His spell there earned him a move to PSG in France, where he made 12 appearances in a single season before moving onto Gremio.
The incident evoked memories of Enner Valencia's extraordinary exit from the field during an Ecuador match in October.
Facing Chile in a World Cup qualifier, lawyers representing the mother of Valencia’s child tried to have the player detained, claiming that he had not paid the substantial sum in maintenance of his daughter.
A scattered band of coppers – some donning riot gear – followed Valencia’s progress as he was wheeled to the ambulance as great speed.
